2016 Trip Plans – More Adventures!

Summer has officially made its way to Southern California, so we have our fans and air conditioner working overtime. All this heat has us daydreaming of cooler locales, foggy mornings, rainy afternoons, and snowy weekend getaways. In that spirit, we’re excited about our next two planned trips! Here’s what we’re looking forward to as we hit the halfway point of 2016:
The Canadian Rocky Mountains
For some time now, we have been itching to take another mountain-based trip, and have been eyeballing Alberta, Canada. It’s tough to keep Julie away from the mountains for too long, and while there are plenty of them here in the states, we have been making and cancelling plans to visit Canada for the last few years. We’ll be spending a week in Canada and visiting Banff and Jasper National Parks. I’m looking forward to once again driving in another country, though this time on the right side of the road. 🙂 And Julie is excited to get me out of bed early every day so that we can get a head start on sunrise photos and beating the crowds!
Christmas in Europe
Last summer, Julie and I took our first international trip abroad together. We visited four countries and had an awesome time. Before we decided to visit in summer, we had originally looked in to going on a winter trip to Europe. Cooler weather and less crowds appeal tremendously to us, so it made a lot of sense. However, since it was Julie’s first time abroad, we scrapped the winter trip which had a shorter window to travel, in favor of a comfortable summer trip.
With our summer vacation to the Canadian Rockies officially planned, I started toying with the idea of spending Christmas in Europe. My original itinerary focused on Scandinavian countries, another top choice on our travel wish list. As time passed, that trip began to make less sense, and I began to float the idea of using our points again for a different trip. I spent some time checking different flight options, routings, and itineraries until I came up with our current plan: England, France, and Switzerland.
England: We’re excited to visit a friend who is currently studying in London and has been gone for the past year. We also can’t wait to take a few more day trips while continuing our love for visiting castles! And in keeping with all things Harry Potter, we look forward to seeing the new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
France: My second visit and Julie’s first, we’ll be in the City of Lights for Christmas. A trip to Versailles is a must and we hope to squeeze in a Christmas Market visit in Strasbourg. 🙂
Switzerland: Another country I visited briefly, and a first for Julie. We’ll be setting up a home base in Zurich and plan to take multiple day trips to nearby Lucerne, Bern, Basel and maybe even Zermatt to see the Matterhorn.
We’re really looking forward to getting out and seeing more of the world this year. In the meantime, we are making plans to explore our own backyard and take day trips to local, Southern California destinations!
If you’ve been to any of the places we have planned, we would love to hear your recommendations!
